The scam behind the contract

It all started last week when I sent a text to an old friend because I needed help with an audition clip. I told DJ Freeez I wanted to do a follow up interview and talk about his new deal with G.O.O.D (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music. He agreed, then told me he was no longer signed with them anymore and we would go into detail when I got there. I was confused and now anxious to find out what happened! Little did I know what was about to take place.
If you listened to the interview you now know that DJ Freeez was indeed scammed out of a G.O.O.D. Music contract by the alleged “Jerezz/Kidd Cole/@Rezzbeatz.” (Whatever his real name is) So this is how the story goes:
Freeez was approached via twitter to do an event at Ibiza Night Club featuring G.O.O.D Music artists Teyana Taylor, Kidd Cole and Jaden Smith. Freeez was a residential DJ at the time so he didn’t really need a contract, but DJing for celebrities…well that’s a good look.
“Kevin Overbrook“ from Overbrook Entertainment approached Freeez via twitter. Overbrook Entertainment is the company founded by partners James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Naturally, Freeez became excited! Especially after he found out they were in connection with G.O.O.D Music. G.O.O.D Music is a record label founded by hip hop recording artist and producer Kanye West in 2004.
G.O.O.D Music began to reach out to him primarily over the internet and via text, and would give Freeez a phone call every once in a while. Next thing you know, Freeez began talking to “Don Crowley” (Kanye West’s personal manager.)
With all the “Mama I made it!” hype surrounding Freeez, things began to unfold and the situation became a little skeptical when questions about contracts and compensations surfaced.
“The first alarm that went off was when he told me that I would be compensated for the event at Ibiza through my contract.” – DJ Freeez
Freeez started to do research on this “Kidd Cole” and found out that he was a complete fraud! Freeez shared his contract with his lawyer and came to the conclusion that it was a “no go.” There was no mention of publishing rights, an advance or copyrights. (Below are actual emails from the alleged Crowley”
The sad part of this story is that Freeez isn’t the first person who’s been scammed by this guy. After releasing this full interview, the notorious @Rezzbeatz changed his name multiple times before eventually deleting his account. I am kind of glad he did because I saw a post from someone I use to go to school with doing “business” with him and I would hate for her to get scammed as well.
Well there you have it! I told you guys you wouldn’t want to miss this interview. If you are in the DMV area be sure to do a background check on people you meet and do business with. Actually that applies to everyone in all areas. It’s simple..one word..Google!
Whew! That was a lot for one day…didn’t know this was going to turn into something so big but I am honored that Freeez allowed me to break this news to you! Make sure to follow me on twitter and IG @TulaAlfredo / @_sheislauren so you won’t miss a beat when #TulaTalks!
